AMA MX: Villopoto extends lead at Unidilla

8-16-2011

by moto123.com

After a two-week break, the 2011 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship returned to action at the Unadilla Valley Sports Center last Saturday only to see Ryan Villopoto (Kawasaki) grabbed his second win of the season.

In Moto 1, Villopoto relied on a strong start to move into second behind American Honda's Justin Barcia. The series leader patiently followed until he finally made his move for the lead on Lap 7; never having to look back afterward.

In the second round, Villopoto found himself in the same situation, this time following closely Red Bull KTM's Mike Alessi before passing him on Lap 3, and finishing off the day with convincing 1-1 moto scores.

Ryan Dungey (Suzuki) battled with Barcia throughout both races, prevailing each time to garner 2-2 moto scores and finish second overall, minimizing the damage in the point standings.

Barcia, making his 450 Class debut in a substitute role for American Honda, finished third (3-3).

Villopoto has now extended his lead in the championship now sitting at seven points over Dungey heading into an off week.
