AMA SX: James Stewart scores big in St Louis

4-12-2011

by moto123.com

James Stewart (Yamaha) took his fourth victory of the 2011 AMA Supercross championship season in front of more than 59,000 fans inside the Edward Jones Dome in St Louis.

Ivan Tedesco (Kawasaki) was the fastest driver at the start of the Class 450 main event and grabbed the holeshot still having to content with Ryan Dungey (Suzuki) and Stewart following close by. On Lap 2, Stewart had already worked his way around Tedesco while Dungey would do the same one lap later.

Tough break for Honda’s Chad Reed who, while riding in third place, ran off the course, which allowed Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Ryan Villopoto to take over the number three position.

Stewart held on for the win, snapping an eight-race winless streak. Series champion Dungey finished second and Villopoto third.

After the St Louis event, Villopoto now leads Dungey in the championship by a mere five points. Next round to be run at the Qwest Field in Seattle next week-end.
