2015 Suzuki V-Strom 650X ABS EXP Preview

2-22-2015

by Pascal Bastien , moto123.com

Since 2004, the Suzuki V-Strom 650 has won over many enthusiasts thanks to its versatility and easy riding dynamics, not to mention its reasonably low price and ownership costs. It now follows in the footsteps of its big brother and offers new features designed to tackle all types of terrain.

The front fairing was tweaked for 2015, adopting the signature beak-like shape that characterizes most adventure bikes, and integrating it perfectly. The V-Strom 650X handles new duties with an engine guard, side and underbody cowls, long-range headlights, wire-spoke alloy wheels, and tubeless tires. The adjustable windshield offers more protection against the elements, while the rider's seat was redesigned for more comfort and support.

Same engine
The 2015 Suzuki V-Strom 650X uses the brand's famous 645cc V-twin, which received a number of upgrades in 2012 including new camshafts and valve springs, as well as specific injection mapping. The results are increased flexibility at medium revs and throttle response across a wide range, along with improved combustion and fuel economy.

The rounded crankcases have allowed Suzuki engineers to install new seals that mitigate engine noise, while the new Throttle-body Integrated Idle Speed Control (TI-ISC) system contributes to easy cold starting, stable idle, and lower emissions. The transmission features a revised shifter.

Comprehensively equipped

The front fork remains telescopic (inverted fork on the V-Strom 1000), while the rear shock comes with a rebound damping adjuster and spring preload adjuster. New Bridgestone tires make their debut on the 2015 V-Strom 650X, promising more versatility than those of the outgoing model and safer riding on various terrains (ABS deserves credit here, as well).

And because the new 2015 Suzuki V-Strom 650X ABS EPX is designed for short, medium, and long trips, look for sturdy, rally-style side cases and top case, and a 20-litre fuel tank allowing proper range. Feel free to venture far away from civilization and explore the great outdoors.
