The small, fully faired Suzuki GW250F crosses the Pacific after three years in its domestic market (the GW250 naked bike arrived in Canada in 2013). Finally, there's an interesting alternative for novices looking for a small-displacement engine and big-bike looks.

Quality and character
The GW250F will attempt to win over Canadian riders with plenty of quality and character, attractive proportions, as well as typical Suzuki fit and finish. It also boasts twin tailpipes, aluminum wheels, a full fairing, and a comprehensive instrument panel that meets modern standards. There's even a fuel gauge, adjustable rpm indicator, and gear position indicator -- pretty nice amenities on a machine primarily aimed at beginners.

While compact, the 2015 Suzuki GW250F tips the scales at 182kg (all tanks full). The good news is that you'll barely feel that excess weight thanks to the very low centre of gravity. There's generous room on board, and yet the chassis is narrow and seat height is just 780mm. Aided by a nicely sculpted, ergonomic perch, the riding position feels natural. The passenger can't really complain, either, with a wide pillion, rubber foot pegs that aren't too high, and convenient grab bars.

Flexible powerplant
Developed in Japan and manufactured in China, the liquid-cooled, SOHC, parallel twin-cylinder that powers the 2015 Suzuki GW250F is tuned to deliver a good amount of low- and mid-range torque. It benefits from advanced electronic fuel injection, 180-degree crankshaft, and 6-speed transmission.

The semi double-cradle steel frame teams up with a conventional front fork and single coil-over rear shock with 7-way adjustable spring preload. Hydraulic disc brakes with Nissin callipers (no ABS) complete the chassis.

Bottom line
A big hit in Japan since day one (nearly 2,000 units sold in just three months), the 2015 Suzuki GW250F will hopefully enjoy similar success here in Canada. The company now has a contender in this blossoming market segment.
