2015 Ski-Doo Renegade X-RS Preview

12-16-2014

by Guillaume Rivard , moto123.com

The all-new 2015 Renegade X-RS is the flagship crossover sled Ski-Doo's most demanding enthusiasts have been clamouring for, taking the capable and precise chassis of the MXZ X 600RS (including most reinforcements and wide, strong running boards) and making it a little bit longer for that go-anywhere performance. Then it adds bottomless KYB Pro 40 piggyback racing shocks (used on the stock race sled) and more for extreme capability.

One of the industry’s best-handling snowmobiles gets even sharper with a new RAS 2 front suspension that includes taller ski spindles, revised geometry, and lighter components for increased precision, especially over extreme bumps.

Compared with the Renegade X, the new X-RS model also gets a lightweight RipSaw track with 1.5” lugs (vs. 1.25”), four rear idler wheels, and a standard forward steering position, not to mention a new radio-frequency security system, Sunburst yellow-painted tunnel, and transparent handguards.

Renegade X-RS is properly motivated
Unlike the X, which offers a choice of three engines including the 800R E-TEC, 600 H.O. E-TEC and 1200 4-TEC, the new 2015 Ski-Doo Renegade X-RS relies on that first one only.

This revolutionary, direct-injected, 2-stroke unit produces a whopping 164 hp while achieving up to 12.3L/100km (premium gas) on the trail, and consuming about 30% less oil than the 800R PowerT.E.K. And thanks to proven E-TEC technology, power is smooth, linear and manageable. Plus, the engine has virtually no smoke or smell, and starts on the first pull every time (electric start is optional). No wonder it's the best-selling 800cc engine in the industry.

And properly sprung, too!
I've mentioned the new front suspension, but let's not overlook the rMotion rear suspension, which provides more capability, more comfort and more adjustability than before.

The most rising-rate motion ratio and longest travel in the industry means the rMotion is supple in small bumps and stronger in large ones. And with the available Quick Adjust system, adjusters on the running boards make fine-tuning fast and easy, even with gloves on. By the way, the spring preload adjustment range is increased by 40%.

Other highlights of the 2015 Ski-Doo Renegade X-RS ($15,849) include a multi-function analogue/digital gauge cluster and an available LinQ mounting system for your accessories.
