2015 Polaris Ranger Crew Diesel Preview

4-14-2015

by Guillaume Rivard , moto123.com

Diesel-powered side-by-side vehicles like the John Deere Gator 855D and Kawasaki MULE 4010 Diesel won't stand a chance when pitted against the all-new 2015 Polaris Ranger Diesel, available in both standard, single-row configuration and optional, multi-passenger (Crew) configuration.

The heart and soul of this model goes by the name “Kohler” -- a 1,028cc, 3-cylinder, OHC, high-performance diesel engine with liquid cooling and electronic fuel injection that delivers smooth power and reduced combustion noise. It boasts a compact, heavy-duty design with a cast iron crankcase for durability, and an aluminum cylinder head for weight reduction. Full-pressure lubrication provides superior protection and engine life. What's more, this new powerplant is EPA/CARB Tier 4 compliant.

For ultimate accessory integration and to power all your electrical needs, the 2015 Polaris Ranger Crew Diesel is fitted with a massive 110 amps of alternator output -- more than double the previous unit. Meanwhile, driver’s side access to the large, range-extending 37.9-litre diesel tank makes fill-ups on the job a breeze. And maintenance has never been easier: To check and fill engine oil, just raise the cargo box.

Of course, diesel engines are not known for their horsepower, and this one is no exception at 24. However, it makes up for it with plenty of torque resulting in a class-leading 2,000lb towing capacity. Additionally, a class-leading 1,750lb payload capacity is highlighted by a rear cargo box with gas-assist dumping operation. What all this means is that you can tackle the toughest jobs with confidence.

Since the 2015 Polaris Ranger Crew Diesel is designed to carry up to six crew members, it offers generous interior space, ideal seat height, and wide foot clearance for easy entry and exit. Plus, the driver enjoys 10” of tilt steering adjustment. Elsewhere, a full 10” of dual A-arm front suspension travel and 10” of independent rear suspension travel keeps the ride smooth. As for ground clearance, you get 11.3”.

Last, but not least, is the revolutionary Pro-Fit cab system, which the 2015 Polaris Ranger Crew Diesel is designed to accept. This highly modular cab system offers cab options from robust canvas doors featuring a poly windshield to premium automotive glass tip-out windshields and power window moulded doors.

And for further convenience and practicality, there are 119 litres of enclosed storage plus plenty of easy-to-access, in-dash storage.

Available in Sage Green only, the 2015 Polaris Ranger Crew Diesel starts at $16,999. Don't need that many seats? The 3-passenger Ranger Diesel will cost you $1,400 less.
