2015 Polaris RZR XP 1000 EPS Desert Edition Preview

1-6-2015

by Guillaume Rivard , moto123.com

Polaris made a lot of people very excited last year with the launch of the all-new RZR XP 1000 sport side-by-side vehicle. And those who've actually tried it out are raving about its amazing handling and phenomenal performance. Competitors like the Can-Am Maverick 1000R and Arctic Cat Wildcat X need to take the threat very seriously.

For 2015, Polaris adds a new, top-of-the-line model that breaks the bank with an astronomical price tag of $31,799, without any options or accessories (need some water to swallow that?). The 2015 Polaris RZR XP 1000 EPS Desert Edition features the ultimate in protection with colour-matched, low-profile brush guards, rock sliders and aluminum roof -- all in striking Voodoo Blue. Additional factory-installed features include a spare tire carrier with spare, new 35” Polaris-engineered light bar, Lock & Ride rear cargo box, and full HMW skid plate.

As probably the most advanced driver information centre on the market, the Polaris Interactive Digital Display offers a sharp, full-colour screen and loads of functionality. You can map your ride or download existing routes from the company's RiderX.com trails app. Toggle through vehicle displays, and communicate with your mobile devices via Bluetooth.

The race-inspired, colour-matched PRP seats in the 2015 Polaris RZR XP 1000 EPS Desert Edition aim to provide outstanding support and comfort for the most aggressive enthusiasts. They have side bolsters for extra support and conform nicely to the new “Click 6” harnesses with retractors.

Considering the name, industry-high cost, and alien-like styling, this machine might as well come from Area 51!

And then there's the engine!
If you think you know how good the new 999cc, DOHC, twin-cylinder ProStar engine is, guess again. For 2015, Polaris engineers tweaked the cams, installed bigger valve springs, and optimized the fuel map to extract 110 hp (+3 hp). They also completely redesigned the clutch cover, secondary helix, and ducting system to offer the most durable clutch system ever on the RZR XP 1000. The new ducting provides twice as much airflow and decreases belt temperature by over 50 degrees.

Whether you attack technical terrain or hit a number of big jumps, you'll be extremely grateful for the 2015 Polaris RZR XP 1000's race-inspired, 3-link rear suspension that was redesigned for maximum acceleration, sharper control, and improved straight-line tracking. The 2.5” diameter rear shocks have been completely re-tuned as well for a better ride and increased durability; they feature tool-less, 16-position compression damping control. Dual-rate springs and exclusive Walker Evans anti-bottoming needle shocks combine to provide up to 16” of travel up front and 18” in the rear -- seriously.

The RZR XP 1000 EPS Desert Edition also rides on new 30” Kanati Mongrels (the industry's largest tires) contributing to a full 13” of clearance and a ground-hugging 90” wheelbase. The chassis and suspension combo is said to smooth the harshest terrain without unwanted body pitch.

Other highlights of the 2015 Polaris RZR XP 1000 EPS Desert Edition include standard electric power steering, factory-installed full doors, a tilt-adjustable sport steering wheel, as well as blue LED interior lightning. Drainage holes are included for easy cleanout, and the cargo bed can haul up to 300 lbs.
