2014 Honda TRX500 Preview

10-8-2013

by Guillaume Rivard , moto123.com

Honda's reputation for combining reliable capability with fun performance stands to grow stronger as the next-generation 2014 TRX500 arrives with an all-new chassis and bodywork, a longer-travel more comfortable suspension, a locking front differential, revised styling, and more.

The TRX500FPE boasts the Japanese manufacturer's renowned Electric Shift Program (ESP) that delivers push-button convenience for shifting, as well as Electric Power Steering for low-effort operation. Meanwhile, the manual-shift TRX500FM will remain the machine of choice for riders who prefer a more conventional gearbox, also with the option of EPS.

Competing directly against the Can-Am Outlander 500, Suzuki KingQuad 500AXi, Yamaha Grizzly 550, and Polaris Sportsman 550, the 2014 Honda TRX500 strives for class-leading handling and performance. How? Well, it starts with a proven 475 cc, liquid-cooled, OHV, single-cylinder engine that gets new fuel-injection settings for improved fuel economy and reduced emissions.

Then you have an all-new front differential with two great features: TraxLok lets you switch between 2WD and 4WD at the push of a button. When the going gets tougher and you need even more traction, you can lock the front differential solid, driving full power to all wheels.

Moreover, the 2014 Honda TRX500's suspension settings were optimized as well, which should translate into a plusher ride on regular terrain, yet the same rugged capability over rough and sketchy trails.

A new seat and revised ergonomics complete the package.

The 2014 Honda TRX500 comes in Red, Green, Blue, and the new Honda-designed Phantom Camo. Look for it to appear at Honda dealers in the next few weeks, with pricing to be finalized in the meantime.
