2012 Daytona Bike Week: Most beautiful roads (video)

3-21-2012

by Pascal Bastien , moto123.com

Launched in 1937, the legendary Bike Week in Daytona Beach now brings together more than 200,000 riders and enthusiasts from all over the world. Most of them attend the event for two reasons: party hard and ride with friends on the open roads of the Sunshine State, flanked by exotic beaches and eerie wetlands. The thrills never stop.

Winding and gazing
One of the most popular choices is the High Bridge Road, a small byroad that starts with a magnificent draw bridge. Full of twists and turns, it has won over countless motorcycle riders and car drivers.

Be careful, though. Strong winds carry sand and humidity from the beach, so hold on tight and watch out for slippery patches. Still, this is a once-in-a-lifetime destination that transpires America - complete with palm trees, swamps, and alligators!

A little for everyone
State Road A1A is another road you just can't miss while in Florida. The panorama keeps changing from restaurants and large hotels to amusement parks and miniature golf courses, museums, lovely dealerships with even lovelier machines, and of course the sea of pedestrians on sidewalks.

The memorable two-way trip covers more than 400 kilometres and, as the easternmost road down there, early birds will cruise as the sun rises over the ocean. This is the land of the free spirit. You can even ride all the way to Miami, where art deco buildings and wild nightclubs are sure to attract visitors.

Sometimes, you can spot a dolphin or surfer along the waves, not to mention diving pelicans in search of a snack. The A1A is A-1, a dream road on which you feel completely away from the job. Shhh... Don't tell the boss!

Vibrant downtown
Take the International Speedway, an 8-way boulevard that will get you to the heart of the Daytona Bike Week. Main Street and Beach Street vibrate to the beat of nearby shows, demos, and manufacturer stands. Also, don't forget to hit the World's Most Famous Beach, a seemingly endless stretch of sand you can actually ride on.

During your next trip to Daytona, allow yourself some time to discover the sick and slick paved roads of the Florida coast - an absolute paradise for riders, 365 days a year. In the meantime, here's a video preview that will no doubt accelerate your plans.
