2011 PGO Metro 50 and Metro 125 Preview

4-11-2011

by Amyot Bachand , moto123.com

I’ve been a fan of the neo-classical styling of PGO’s Metro scooters for a few years now. Two models are available in Canada: the 50 and 125.

Metro 125
I won’t deny that the 125, with its frankly original and charming style, gets my juices flowing. It’s very 1950-60s. Classically styled, it stands out with its two-tone palette and white sidewall tires. You have a choice of livery: apple green on tea green or red on tan. I really liked the latter, which I got to see in person at Scootart in Montreal. Even the front disc brake is colour coordinated. If the devil is in the details, then this little number is devilish indeed. The head- and taillamps blend in perfectly.

The seat is fairly long, and theoretically should easily accommodate a passenger. The aluminum footrests are flat and look like they’ll ensure a decent riding position. A road test will tell us more about it in terms of space and ride comfort. With both electric and kick start, you’ll get out of any situation.

On the mechanical front, the 125 sports a four-stroke engine and should prove quite adept at zipping through traffic. Shod in 10-inch wheels and featuring a tube frame, on paper the Metro 125 is a practical city scooter. It does, however, require a motorcycle license, contrary to its little brother, the Metro 50.

This diminutive Taiwanese city runabout can not only be accessorized according to your taste, but WITH taste as well. Quite an advantage that. Classy to begin with, you can up the ante with front and rear racks or a case mounting kit. The latter features side bars that have distinct 1960s mod flair. All these accessories are chromed to spice things up visually. The Metro 50 comes in black, red, tan or two-tone pink, and the dial features a pastel backdrop. This scooter will suit girls as well as boys who want to stand out from the sea of urban scooters.
