Aprilia engineered the V4 engine to freely accommodate the latest evolutions. Its cassette-type transmission enables easy gear spacing. We can imagine this daring duo powering a standard sport bike or light tourer in the future. Rumours of its arrival have been flying since the worldwide launch of the RSV4 in Misano in 2009. And now, here it is: the 2011 Aprilia Tuono V4 R.

The first production model of the new Tuono V4 R, presented at the Milan Motorcycle Show in 2010, has got enthusiasts drooling. The Noale firm’s superb roadster uses the frame and potent V4 mill of the RSV4, give or take a few ponies but with an extra dollop of torque, and its ergonomics and versatility will appeal to a wide range of riders.



With its seemingly successful architecture and bad-ass looks, it’s impossible to remain indifferent to the Tuomo. The bikini fairing, dual headlamp and ram air intake system were enough to hide part of the electronics and give this new naked bike an altogether original look.

According to Aprilia’s engineers, the modified frame (wider fork angle and lowered seat) compensate for the loss of stability caused by the use of wider, higher handlebars and the lack of a full fairing. What’s more, the Tuono V4 R has shed 5 kg compared to the RSV4 R and weighs in at 179 kg, the same weight as the purebred RSV4 Factory. Can you say blistering performance?

Thanks to the ATC (Aprilia Traction Control) derived from the RSV4 APRC, the Tuono V4 R offers three mapping modes and traction control levels. The ATC helps develop the engine’s full potential, limiting front wheel shenanigans and rear wheel slippage, and Aprilia’s Quick Shift system allows you to shift without closing the throttle or using the clutch. However, the Tuono V4 doesn’t feature ABS, despite the sensors already being used by the ATC.
