2010 SnoCross Extreme at Xtown

1-28-2010

by Pascal Bastien , moto123.com

One of the coolest snowmobile racing event in Canada, the SnoCross Extreme, held its 2010 edition at the XTown sports complex, last January 16th and 17th. Presented by key XTown partners such as Choko Design, Le Roi du Camion and Ski-Doo, the fanatics couldn’t care less about the cold.

The large crowd saw some exciting starts from the more than 200 riders, running in more than forty races over the week end.

A unique event
The best SnowCross riders of the Canadian SCM Racing series and its American counterpart, the RockMaple SnoCross, met in the only Canadian round where both high-calibre series went head to head. Over 200 riders from Canada and the US fought it out on a technical track, as interesting as it was safe, of international level and including banked corners and jumps over 35 metres long.

The track as well as the installations delighted the thousands of spectators and participants, officials, riders and team members alike. Fans didn’t miss a thing thanks to grandstands, hills, a heated trailer and a lighting system, and when things got too chilly, they could take refuge in a large tent featuring a snack bar and exhibits from various suppliers.

Everyone has a blast
A demanding track and variable conditions didn’t prevent the riders from giving a breathtaking show. Exciting starts heading into a funnel-shaped first corner, extreme triple and quadruple jumps, heated battles in every class and the shrill screech of the competition two-stroke twin-cylinders made for a heady experience.

Ski-Doo, one of the main sponsors, set up a Can-Am ATV and 2010 Ski-Doo snowmobile test centre where the public could test the machines, an excellent initiative from BRP and XTown, who created two test tracks for the occasion.

Don’t miss it
You have to see it – and experience it – to believe it. SnoCross is one of the most impressive motor sports I have ever come across.
See you at the 2011 edition!

The violent acceleration caused some spectacular "wheelies", and riders were regularly flying over 35m to clear multiple jumps in one shot.
