2009 Honda CBR600RR and CBR1000RR Preview

11-21-2008

A more compact and stable CBR600RR
Also new on the 2009 incarnation of the CBR600RR is a more aerodynamic and wraparound fairing, as well as an updated colour palette. It also inherits new oval turn signals both in front and back, sporting clear lenses and orange bulbs. Already relatively generous in terms of torque compared to its rivals, this year's engine gets new pistons, a new cylinder head and an improved exhaust system, all for the honorable sake of increasing torque between 8,000 and 12,000 RPM. It worked, with 3.5% more ommph at 10,000 RPM, enough to make a real difference when riding on the street as well as the track. Maximum power remains at 2008 levels (120 ponies at 13,500 RPM) while the torque increase is great news for a 600 class machine.

The 600 gets the HESD electronic steering damper for this year, while the suspension uses a 41-mm inverted HMAS fork up front and the Unit Pro-Link system around back, similar to the one used on MotoGP bikes. The dash board features more legible numbers, an ABS warning light and a fuel gauge.

With a more compact engine, improved torque, a more aerodynamic fairing, new colours, and a new electronically-controlled steering damper, Honda is definitely looking to stay on the 600 class podium this year. The introduction of C-ABS system also demonstrates that the manufacturer is not afraid of forging ahead, especially where safety is concerned.

FEW CHANGES FOR THE CBR1000RR
Honda hit a technological and commercial home run with the all new 2008 CBR1000RR.  For this year, changes are limited to new colour schemes and,  most important of all, the optional C-ABS.
