Modern, efficient powerplant
The 2015 Yamaha Zuma X is powered by a 49cc, SOHC, 4-stroke single-cylinder. It's a peppy, easy-to-use engine (3 lb-ft at 6,500 rpm) with excellent fuel economy (Yamaha claims 55km/L or 1.82L/100km) and low emissions (an air induction system injects fresh air into the exhaust port to ensure complete fuel combustion, while dual honeycomb-style catalytic converters further reduce exhaust emissions). That's a good thing because fuel tank capacity is just 4.5L.
Unlike some competitors that rely on air cooling, the 2015 Yamaha Zuma X benefits from liquid cooling to maintain stable engine temperatures for increased performance even during stop-and-go riding. Meanwhile, the fuel injection system (instead of a carburetor) provides choke-free starting, crisp throttle response, and greater efficiency. By the way, the Zuma X also comes with an electric starter for more convenience.
Convenient city companion
Speaking of which, there's a 23L, lockable storage compartment under the seat that can hold some full-face helmets or other stuff like a backpack, laptop computer, rain suit, etc. The 2015 Yamaha Zuma X also puts a handy pocket in front of the rider for storing smaller items like a cell phone or wallet. There's a folding hook nearby in case you need to carry a handbag or grocery bags.
Interestingly, the main key switch is a 3-in-1 type that combines the ignition, fork lock, and underseat storage compartment lock into one convenient switch. It also features an anti-theft "shutter" that can be closed to prevent someone from tampering or attempting to force the ignition switch.
Zuma X on the road
Once you take it off its centre stand, expect light, agile handling and great manoeuvrability as the wheelbase, centre of gravity, weight distribution, and tire design of the 2015 Yamaha Zuma X have all been engineered for that purpose. The wide floorboards and front leg cowl are said to provide good splash and wind protection.
The 2015 Yamaha Zuma X rides on 10” alloy wheels and supplies 58mm of suspension travel up front and 56mm in the rear. Forgiving 120/90 tires help tackle rough, pothole-filled roads with confidence. You will also appreciate the 180mm front disc brake and the extra-long rear fender extension that reduces road splash.
Sitting above the stylish headlight is an instrument panel with a speedometer, odometer, and fuel gauge. There are also warning lights for coolant temperature, high beam, turn signals, and an engine warning light.
The only thing left to say about the 2015 Yamaha Zuma X is that there's a new Metallic White & Red option instead of Metallic Black & Yellow (Deep Purplish Metallic Blue is the other).
