2014 Victory Cross Roads 8-Ball Review

7-6-2014

by Pascal Bastien , moto123.com

Victory's latest bagger is all dressed in black and ready to please. The more affordable 2014 Cross Roads 8-Ball combines racy American styling with a long list of touring features.

This bike is so attractive and impeccably finished: flowing lines, slammed profile, matte black parts, aluminum wheels, floorboard-type footrests, handlebars that stretch toward the rider, and of course a big, beautiful V-twin.

Beyond all that eye candy, the 2014 Victory Cross Roads 8-Ball is a high-tech steed with an aluminum frame, dual discs up front, an inverted fork, and a 6-speed transmission with belt final drive. The result is flawless riding dynamics and greater touring ability than the average cruiser.

2014 Victory Cross Roads 8-Ball in a word: Freedom
Agile and well balanced despite its 339 kilos (thank you, low centre of gravity!), the 2014 Victory Cross Roads 8-Ball happily dives into corners, remains stable while leaning over the apex, and shoots its way out to the beat of the 1,731cc Freedom 106/6 engine. Producing 106 lb-ft of torque, this SOHC twin-cylinder is tuned to deliver the smooth ride light-touring enthusiasts are looking for.

The riding position is pretty much beyond reproach: Your legs aren't excessively stretched, while the superb seat ensures long-lasting comfort. It also helps to have a soft suspension with just enough firmness dialled in to avoid bottoming out. A favourable rake, reasonable ground clearance, and not-too-wide tires make the 2014 Victory Cross Roads 8-Ball quite predictable through twists and turns. The brakes are powerful, yet easy to modulate, boosting safety and confidence on a machine that lacks ABS.

Ergonomic and versatile
With a 22L tank, you can plan fairly long trips. Much like the Cross Country family, the 2014 Victory Cross Roads 8-Ball offers great ergonomics that prevent fatigue whatever your riding style is, while its superior build quality, fit and finish rival some of the best and most sophisticated bikes out there.

What the 2014 Victory Cross Roads 8-Ball lacks in sportiness and exhilaration, it easily makes up in comfort and touring ability. Not as brash and vocal as other cruisers in its class, the smooth and mild-mannered Brit remarkably serves its primary purpose.

And despite a competitive price of $17,599, this new 8-Ball model boasts all the charisma, comfort, and efficient performance of a Cross Roads. It's arguably the best value you'll find in the entire 2014 Victory lineup.
