The third member of the modern-era Indian family brings forth iconic, nearly century-old styling in a technologically advanced package derived from Victory, Polaris' other cruiser brand.
The low-slung 2014 Indian Chief Vintage sports a traditional windshield, a headlight, valenced fenders, a tridimensional War Bonnet logo, and a natural tan leather seat and saddlebags with fringes -- the classic look of Indian motorcycles from the 1950s. White tire sidewalls, long chrome tailpipes, and a huge 49-degree V-twin add the finishing touches to this American beauty whose lines emulate the sleek and curvaceous automobiles of that same period.
Modern components with a retro feel
Like its two siblings, the
2014 Indian Chief Vintage is powered by the spirited 1,810cc Thunder Stroke 111 engine with air/liquid cooling that produces 119.2 lb-ft of torque at 3,000 rpm. The sheer amount of chrome cladding ensures there are no unsightly radiators, ducts, or fuel lines.
The 2014 Indian Chief Vintage also uses the same chassis as the Chief Classic (so does the
Chieftain, but with subtle geometry changes). A cast aluminum frame with integrated air box (as seen on the Victory Vision), telescopic fork, single rear shock, laced wheels, dual 300mm brake discs with ABS, cruise control, and keyless start with antitheft alarm all come standard.
The analog speedometer combines with a digital gear shift indicator, trip metre, and fuel gauge to provide essential information when you look down at the 20.8L tank. With these additions and others, the 2014 Indian Chief Vintage weighs 10 kg more than the
Chief Classic.

Comfortable and charismatic
In true Indian form, the Chief offers plenty of room to stretch in a low, laid-back riding position that keeps your legs and arms slightly extended -- unlike most cruisers that force riders to bend in half to access the controls.
The 2014 Indian Chief Vintage's fat torque, precise throttle calibration, and six superbly spaced gears help you manoeuvre this heavy steed easily at low speeds. You can also regain momentum without hesitation, even at 70 km/h in sixth gear. Meanwhile, the syncopated, Harley-like exhaust note is just powerful enough to raise your hair, delight your ears, and send the bike vibrating all the way through the handlebars until you take off and pick up the pace.

Just whistle while you ride...
The controls on the 2014 Indian Chief Vintage prove intuitive albeit firm to use, especially the clutch. On the flip side, the shifter is smooth and definitely won't break your toes. Handling is great for such a massive cruiser, so feel free to whistle and take in the scenery as you hit the open road on a sunny day. For sure, it helps to have reasonably sized tires (130 mm front; 180 mm rear) and above-average ground clearance. The brakes may not be extremely powerful, but they do enough to inspire confidence. They're also very easy to modulate and backed by ABS whenever you get too confident.
Thanks to a modern chassis, a lively and charismatic engine, and comfortable ergonomics, the retro-style 2014 Indian Chief Vintage behaves like a true 21st-century motorcycle. Enthusiasts will love the combination of vintage styling, sweet performance, and rider-friendly thrills.
