As Kawasaki's entry-level Jet Ski model, the 2013 STX-15F is also the smallest and most agile personal watercraft in the catalogue, yet it can still seat three people. No changes were made for 2013, save for a cool new colour scheme: Jet White/Galaxy Silver.
Spirited
Like the trio of Ultra watercraft, the 2013 Kawasaki STX-15F is powered by a 1,498cc, 4-stroke, DOHC, inline 4-cylinder engine with electronic fuel injection and semi-dry sump lubrication. This high-revving unit produces 158 hp at 7,500 rpm and 112 lb-ft of torque at 7,250 rpm -- unmatched in this price range. At the same time, it's clean enough to earn an Ultra-Low Emissions rating.
The axial flow, single-stage propulsion system uses a 148 mm, three-blade impeller to deliver 434 kg of forward thrust. It's housed within a compact and lightweight hull designed for sporty handling, with sponsons that provide superior grip when cornering. In fact, this fibreglass-reinforced plastic hull is a modified version of the race-spec 1200 STX-R hull.
Friendly
The riding position of the 2013 Kawasaki STX-15F was carefully studied and fine-tuned to accommodate a wide range of body sizes and riding styles, whether standing up or sitting down. Moreover, a Kawasaki Splash Deflector (KSD) helps minimize spray on the rider.
Thanks to Kawasaki's Smart Learning Operation (SLO), riders can choose between limited power for easier training and full power for maximum fun, based on their experience or preferences. The STX-15F also gets electronic help from its Kawasaki Smart Steering (KSS), which monitors steering input and engine speed to make turning at higher speeds easier and smoother.
Elsewhere, the fully digital instrument panel of the 2013 Kawasaki STX-15F includes a speedometer, tachometer, fuel gauge, oil level, trip meter, clock, water temperature indicator, and warning lights. Generous storage capacity and several convenient features for watersports complete the package.
Affordable
Big on value and fun, the 2013 Kawasaki STX-15F starts at $11,299. Competitors include a few
Yamaha VX models, as well as the
Sea-Doo Wake 155 and
GTI Limited 155.
