2010 Can-Am Outlander Max 800R EFI LTD Review

2-2-2010

by Pascal Bastien , Auto123.com

A suspension that makes all the difference
Not only does it offer princely comfort, the new Fox rear suspension with hydraulic dampening and an air spring to assist the base steel coil spring improves the Outlander Max 800R EFI LTD’s handling considerably. The additional support brought by the air spring allowed an important reduction in stiffness of the base coil spring, which tuned into a much wider adjustability range at the back. In fact, the maximum stiffness remained roughly the same, while the minimum stiffness was reduced, thus increasing stability over bumps and jumps. What’s more, this softer suspension markedly decreases rear bouncing during solo rides.

A nose every owner would love... maybe!

A comparison with all-coil spring models truly demonstrated the advantages of the new suspension, as the other Outlander machines equipped with conventional shocks suffer from too much spring stiffness and too much “Bounce” on the rebound.

Thanks to the new air-controlled system and its powerful engine, the Max 800R EFI LTD proves much more playful and predictable on sporty rides; it slides almost naturally when exiting corners and is more easily controlled over rough surfaces. As for jumps, it behaves better and lands with a stability as yet unseen on a Max 800.

A winning model
Faster, more comfortable, better equipped and, especially, better sprung, the Can-Am Outlander Max 800R EFI LTD has got it all – if you can afford it.
