DTM : Kristensen confirms with pole, Spengler far behind

7-26-2008

by R Fagnan

Rain has changed things dramatically for the qualifying session of the DTM series held this afternoon at the Nurburgring in Germany.

It was dry this morning and a thunderstorm flooded the track before the timed session. However, the session was stopped during the 2nd heat because the conditions became too dangerous. Then, the decision was taken to abort de session completely.

In these conditions, Dane Tom Kristensen clocked the fastest lap in his Audi A4. He emerged quickest of all, beating Mike Rockenfeller (Audi), Martin Tomczyk (Audi), Gary Paffett (Mercedes) and Mattias Elström (Audi).

Former F1 driver Ralf Schumacher had his best run so far this season, setting the 7th time.

Canadian Bruno Spengler endured a tough time. Unable to find sufficient traction, he was bumped after the first round of qualification. He will start the race in 16th place tomorrow, sandwiched between Susie Stoddart and Christijan Albers.
