In a move befitting the positive impact the late Chris Earlywine had on the sport of ATV racing, his compatriots in the WPSA PowerSports ATV Tour's Plus 35 Class honored his memory on Saturday at Virginia Motorsports Park. Earlywine, a Tour veteran and owner of America's largest indoor motocross facility, died yesterday at a local hospital after suffering an apparent heart attack while practicing for this weekend's GBC National.
Prior to starting its second moto of the weekend, the Plus 35 field stopped on the frontstretch and held a moment of silence. WPSA registrar Shannon Miller cut apart a jersey given to her by Earlywine at the last race, and gave the pieces of fabric to each competitor in the field. Each them wore the pieces of the shirt as armbands during the race.
