The long-awaited and much discussed debut of this exciting new sportbike from BMW takes place this week end in Phillip Island, in the opening round of the 2009 WSB Championship. Multiple World and AMA Superbike Champion Troy Corser, and the always spectacular Ruben Xaus will finally tackle strong opposition from Ducati as well as the four major Japanese manufacturers, after months of development at tracks around the world. The all new S 1000 RR showed excellent progress and pace during testing, as did the all new Yamaha R1 in the hands of AMA Champion Ben Spies, while the retirement of Troy Bayliss effectively decapitated the official Ducati team, who dominated the 2008 season. A serious game of musical rides has scrambled the outlook for the other major teams, so much so that it is hard to predict a champion at this stage. All we know for sure is that the races will be hard fought, and the results sometime surprising. In the meantime, take a look at the spectacular BMW S 1000 RR in race trim. Makes you want to go out and buy a replica, doesn't it! Photo Credit : BMW
