The meeting on June 10 turned out to be a fruitful one as Quebec’s Minister of Transport, Julie Boulet, the
Société de l’assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ) and the
Front Commun Motocycliste (FCM), which includes
Mouvement Escargot along with the
Fédération Motocycliste du Québec (FMQ) and
Comité d’action politique motocycliste (CAPM), finally agreed on a roundtable to revise insurance premiums. The negotiations will begin this summer.
Taking into consideration the financial issues of the public insurance system, the roundtable will cover the
SAAQ’s insurance cost structure, motorcycle classification and a number of possible alternatives. The very foundations and principles of the current system will be scrutinized, too.
The SAAQ also announced a special task force that will evaluate rider safety and develop solutions to reduce injuries and casualties, which will lead to a drop in insurance premiums.
By working closely together on both the insurance cost structure and road
safety for motorcyclists, the various parties are confident to reach a satisfying middle ground.
