After studying the possibility of running in MotoGP, the head honchos in Munich opted for the Superbike class, nearer the standard bike and consequently the future buyer. The human and infrastructure preparations for a "factory" participation in the World Superbike Championship have been well under way for the last three years at least, with an official and diligent presence at the World Enduro Championship, the MotoST Enduro in the U.S. and, closer to home, the Canadian Thunder series, as well as various promotional series for the R1200S, K1200S and HP2 Sport. The Low Boy is a concept machine from BMW based on the R1200 platform which has been shorn of all fairing and ornaments, and featuring elements borrowed from different types of current and older models: wire wheels, single seat, naked look, "slammed" seat and suspension almost down to Softail levels, minimalist fenders, double barrel high exhaust, stacked head lights, waved front disks, and a single-sided swing arm.
A new F800R was also announced, adding a naked bike to the F800 family. [more]

True to form, BMW has leaked information on its new K1300 lineup, and the news for 2009 is excellent, indeed exciting, as the K1300 family is an important update of the various transversal engine K1200 models featuring the ultra-efficient Duolever front suspension with parallel arms. The marketing goal of the new K1300s is clear: "...improve the machine's performance and user-friendliness thanks to a stronger, more harmonious torque band and an even more congenial engine." [more]

On September 1, Han Blesse was promoted to Executive Vice President, sales and marketing at BMW Motorrad. He is taking over from Hendrik von Kuenheim, who was acting as interim manager since last April. Blesse was hired by BMW Canada in 1987 and has been with the manufacturer ever since. He worked for that division until 2005, after which he was responsible for BMW Motorrad's after-sales service in Spain. [more]

BMW's superbike project is gathering pace, and race-fans have now been able to see the new Super Sport bike for the first time. The new BMW S1000RR has been race-track tested in Spain, but it has just completed a test at the same track used by the Superbike World Championship- namely the Eurospeedway Lausitzring. The S1000RR will help BMW take on the competition in the Supersports segment- both on the road and at the track. Japanese manufacturers are two decades of Motorrad in this class, but BMW remains confident that they'll be on par with their competition. [more]

The event, which started last summer, brings new attractions to the agenda this year to ensure an action-packed weekend of excitement. BMW is launching an all-new F650GS for value-minded consumers. Sure enough, this bike has plenty of attractive features to lure potential buyers into BMW showrooms. The complete redesign is great news for adventure-seeking riders. The thing that will surprise most people when looking at the spec sheet is the very affordable price, especially for a German product. BMW Motorrad's new head, Hendrik von Kuenheim, has set some ambitious growth targets for the German motorcycle manufacturer- including a sales increase of some 50 percent by 2010, totaling 150,000 units. Von Kuenheim says that positioning BMW Motorrad as a more sporting and dynamic company will be key in meeting these goals.
