2012 Victory High-Ball Review

6-24-2011

by Pascal Bastien , moto123.com

Victory offers a new retro-looking, stripped-down motorcycle powered by the famous second-generation 106 Freedom V-Twin with 6-speed transmission. This latest creation sports numerous styling innovations and shows a whole new attitude courtesy of a unique riding position. The blacked-out engine features machined cylinders and staggered, slash-cut dual exhaust in matte black.

This new Victory model stands out from the Vegas and Hammer with nifty ape-hanger handlebars that can be easily and quickly adjusted using the proper tools. Leave them high for an aggressive chopper-style riding position or pull them down low for a more relaxed but no less intimidating stance.

Modern, competent engine
The 2012 High-Ball delivers all the performance you’d expect from a Victory. The latest evolution of the 106ci twin-cylinder belts out an incredible 97 horsepower at 5,000 rpm and 113 pounds-foot of torque at 3,100 rpm, with nearly 100 lb-ft coming at just 2,000 rpm. Helped by an electronic fuel injection system and balance shaft, the Freedom V-twin makes the riding experience pleasant at all times, even at higher revs, which is rare for this type of cruiser.

The High-Ball also relies on a new 6-speed transmission and wet, multi-plate clutch requiring less effort from the rider while offering more progressiveness and a better mechanical feel. This year, engineers revised the gear ratios for sharper throttle control, making Victory's transmission one of the finest in the segment.

Dynamic and stylish
The ultra-low seat accommodates just about all rider shapes and sizes. Plus, it contributes to a stylish 'low-rider' silhouette. The bike itself sits on 16-inch lace wheels shod in big tires with white sidewalls. A triangular headlight adds a classic yet modern touch. White and matte black paint completes the picture.

The High-Ball is a genuine custom but with all the benefits and reliability of a factory bike. There's nothing quite like it on the market right now, not only because of its distinctive looks but also its riding dynamics which very few cruisers can match.

Where have all the kilos gone?
From the get-go, the machine displays remarkable agility and handling. Believe me, you won't feel its 300 kilos at all. Gentle pressure on the footpegs and handlebars is enough to steer the High-Ball exactly like you want, be it at low or high speeds.
