11-4-2011

by Pascal Bastien , moto123.com

Following the huge success of its first full-size ATV, the MXU 500i, Kymco strikes back with the all-new 2012 MXU 450i. This unique machine from the Taiwanese giant is ready to hit North America and delight medium-displacement ATV enthusiasts.

Powering the MXU 450i is a 443cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine featuring electronic fuel injection. Output is rated at 30 horsepower, which is remarkable for such a small displacement. The centrally-positioned muffler enjoys splash protection, while the continuously variable transmission teams up with a rider-selectable 4WD system – a must for this type of ATV.

Great design
Now similar in size to the MXU 500i, the MXU 450i fills a void in Kymco’s lineup and proves to be a great alternative to Japanese and American competitors. It should quickly find a niche in the market, thanks to its smart dimensions and numerous standard features.

The shape of the MXU 450i is smoother and much more flowing than its larger sibling. The modern-looking headlights and taillights add a great touch, while the rugged bumpers and cargo racks mean business. Here’s a very handsome ATV that will certainly get some attention out on the trails.

Independent suspension
The Maxxer 450i-derived independent suspension is by far the most innovative feature on the new model. It will improve traction, ground clearance and, most importantly, overall comfort.

All in all, the 2012 Kymco MXU 450i, starting at $6,495, is a sharp-looking ATV designed for people after a compact, well-equipped and comfortable ride at a reasonable price. On that last point, the company always has pleasant surprises in store.
