2012 Victory High-Ball Review

6-24-2011

by Pascal Bastien , moto123.com

Despite the low seat height, this singular steed offers a commanding position, probably as a result of your arms being stretched forward at shoulder level (but not over-extended). The seat design pins you back and holds you firmly during spirited accelerations.

The suspension does a good job, with just enough compliance to deliver a smooth ride as you eat up the miles. The low-riding stance and limited rear travel won't make you suffer in excess, but you should nevertheless avoid the most damaged surfaces.

Delightful throbs
Like all good Victorys equipped with the Freedom engine, the new High-Ball provides a sweet feeling at idle and low revs. Sure, the throbbing cylinders play a prominent role, but they'll never spoil the fun if you love this sort of beat. The similarly-sized tires combine to give the bike a definite sense of lightness. Very docile and surprisingly nimble, the High-Ball happily leans in corners, too.

As you cruise down a winding road by the river, there's not much you can find fault with, except maybe the relatively-firm controls and lack of rear suspension travel. In the end, the 2012 Victory High-Ball handles more easily than ever, delivers above-average performance and presents a striking look dictated by a classic riding position from the Peace & Love era.

Pros
Competent engine, divine feel
Improved transmission
Sound chassis
Well-executed design

Firm controls
