2011 Husqvarna TC449 and TE449 Preview

1-14-2011

by Pascal Bastien , moto123.com

Optimum performance and emission control is achieved through an electronic fuel injection system with dual throttle bodies. Torque is rated at 32 lb-ft @ 6,500 rpm, while output amounts to 41 hp @ 7,000 rpm - similar to the most powerful competitors.

The close-ratio, five-speed transmission derived from the G450X uses a hydraulically-controlled clutch mounted at the tip of the crankshaft, where the smaller diameter further reduces rotational inertia and boosts engine responsiveness.

Proven technologies
The frame is another example of G450X influence, with the sprocket and swingarm pivot pin sharing the same axis. Husqvarna calls it ''Coaxial Traction System'' (CTS). With this technology, the chain tension is always consistent whatever position the rear wheel takes in all its travel, resulting in greater traction and easier maintenance.

Instead of using BMW's simplified multi-tube frame (which connected the steering head to the swingarm in a straight line), the TC and TE rely on a double-cradle steel frame that proves lighter yet stiffer than the G450X. It also incorporates a reinforced steering column and forged aluminum fork crowns.

Both the Kayaba fork and shock offer compression and rebound damping adjustments. Other quality components include Brembo brakes and a titanium exhaust.

Bottom line
The competitively-priced 2011 Husqvarna TE449 and TC449 directly threaten big guns like the Yamaha YZ450F/WR450F and KTM 450 SX-F/450 EXC. They already have the edge in terms of emission control, suspension and braking components, and comprehensive warranty (two years).

Before the machines arrive at Canadian dealerships, check out this official video of the 2011 TE449.
