2011 Harley-Davidson 1200 Custom Review

5-3-2011

by Pascal Bastien , moto123.com

Equipment is similar to other Sportsters and includes a handlebar-mounted instrument panel with analog speedometer and warning lights (no tachometer, though). Despite the extended wheelbase and fat tire up front, the bike remains fairly agile, especially given its 251 kilos. In the city, it effortlessly threads through traffic with a narrow handlebar and ultra-low centre of gravity.

As you pick up the pace, it continues strong without bucking or cringing and inspires confidence in virtually all conditions, although I would have liked more aggressive brakes, particularly when riding with a passenger. Substantial efforts are required at the highest speeds. Also, keep in mind that ground clearance is limited.

Overall, however, the 1200 Custom displays great balance and docility, even during spirited romps which this machine is little suited for. The top speed of 160 km/h is hard to reach, so kick back, relax and cruise to the sweet sounds of the long-stroke mill. Delightful treats await you!

A true H-D
More comfortable than the 1200 Low, Nightster and Forty-Eight, not to mention easy to ride and just powerful enough to stand out, the new 2011 Harley-Davidson 1200 Custom offers the style, personality and charisma that only a Harley can provide. A judicious blend of mechanical thrills and friendly dynamics.
