2011 Ducati Diavel Carbon Review

4-18-2011

by Pascal Bastien , moto123.com

In normal conditions, the Ducati Diavel provides nothing but exhilaration along with a unique feel. When riding full steam, one could rightfully complain about the lack of response from the front wheel under braking as weight transfers take too much time. The stiff fork is the main culprit, here. If you want a smooth ride, look for something other than this hardcore Italian. On the plus side, the natural riding position and excellent seating are likely to keep you riding longer.

Touring isn't out of the question with a small wind deflector that offers decent protection and reduces fatigue on the highway. Moreover, crosswinds don't seem to affect the bike very much; when it comes to maintaining a straight line, the Diavel is just as good as the average tourer.

Electronics to the rescue
On rough pavement, the intense power pushes the fat 240-mm rear tire's grip to the limit; a slight crack or seal can overwhelm the tail. Fortunately, DTC reacts instantly to avoid a mess. The ABS brakes enhance control and contribute to satisfying handling performance.

The machine fares pretty well in the city, too. Its reasonable size, upright riding stance and commendable manoeuvrability play a key role. You'll enjoy cruising on boulevards and tight roads that run along the river, turning plenty of heads on the way.

Bottom line
Make no mistake: even though the 2011 Ducati Diavel Carbon is mainly about standing out and having a blast (quarter mile in under 10 seconds!), you can still get a kick out of cruising in the country. This racy, exuberant bike puts on quite a show and serves as an exclusive alternative for unconventional folks who crave goose bump-inducing performance.
