The 2008 Snowmobile Show recently took place at Place Forzani, in Laval, Quebec. Winter sports enthusiasts were able to get a close look at the upcoming 2009 models from four different manufacturers. Here's a preview of the new 2009 Arctic Cat snowmobiles.

Two years ago, Arctic Cat created the all-new and revolutionary Twin Spar Chassis, which shifts the rider's feet forward and offers a sportier riding position. This frame is 46-percent stiffer than the Firecat chassis thanks to new self-piercing rivets, forged shock towers and improved shock configuration.

New feeling
The Twin Spar chassis moves the rider 20 to 30 cm forward. Therefore, the rider's weight is more centralized, which improves handling. In addition, the more ergonomic position decreases rider fatigue and provides better control. Arctic Cat calls it the "Infinite Rider Positioning" (IRP) system. The seat, handlebars and footrests are easily adjustable to provide optimum positioning for all rider sizes and styles.

Standard and premium models all get a new instrument panel with the Deluxe Gauge system that lets you choose between digital and analog speed and rpm readouts. There's also an odometer, two trip meters, a reverse indicator, a clock, a fuel gauge and several warning lights.

Force-fed engine
The most impressive addition to the 2009 Arctic Cat lineup is by far the new Z1 Turbo. This machine is motivated by a new turbocharged version of Suzuki's 4-stroke twin-cylinder engine, a 1,056-cc unit delivering the highest performance in the industry. It also powers the two-seat model called TZ1 Turbo Touring LXR. With exemplary ergonomics added into the mix, the TZ1 becomes a serious contender for the crown of best touring snowmobile in the industry.

For 2009, Arctic Cat introduces a more luxurious alternative to the Z1. The Z1 LXR and Z1 LXR Turbo offer more equipment, including a premium instrument panel and a heated seat. LXR models are designed for those after an agile, capable and very comfortable snowmobile.
