2009 Yamaha Raptor 700R Review (video)

5-15-2009

by Pascal Bastien , moto123.com

Predictable behavior
While on the extremely challenging tarmac of Mecaglisse in Notre-Dame-de-la-Merci, Quebec, for some superquad racing, the brakes kept biting just as hard lap after lap and the brake lever never became spongy. The Raptor proved to be predictable and stable enough to drift in corners without fear of rolling over -- unlike the previous model with excessively-short A-arms -- even though maximum hip sway is needed to pull it off.

The new adjustable suspensions do a good job of maximizing grip when aggressively coming out of a bumpy corner. In normal conditions and with a softer setting, they soak up bumps nicely and even provide surprising comfort for a sport ATV.

The 2009 Raptor 700R is a real delight for those who like to cut loose from time to time.

Fun and more fun
The more you spend time with the Raptor, the more you like it -- whether it's a leisurely ride on smooth trails or a wicked blast through sand pits and jumps. I've never seen such a versatile sport ATV. What's more, considering that a speedometer and brake light are part of the standard package, the only thing missing in order to be able to ride on regulated trails is a simple rearview mirror. There's one caveat, though: the Raptor 700R offers limited range.

No one can argue that the 2009 Yamaha Raptor 700R is a big-time machine given the upgraded brakes, added comfort and stability, improved performance and, of course, irresistible styling. This is the most versatile and most complete sport ATV in the industry -- a real power delight for those who like to experience big-time thrills (and chills) from time to time.
