2009 Ski-Doo MX Z 600 H.O. E-TEC First Impressions

3-13-2008

by Pascal Bastien , moto123.com

According to engineers, the new 600 E-TEC engine is more efficient, cleaner and less fuel- and oil-thirsty than any rival. Our brief trail test did not allow us to properly gauge fuel economy; however, we noticed a significant improvement in terms of exhaust smoke and smells.

The MX Z 600 H.O. E-TEC is predictable and decently comfortable on the trails.

Ergonomic riding position

As for ergonomics, I liked the large, sticky floorboards and the raised handlebar. Like all Ski-Doos based on the REV-X chassis, this one makes it easy for the rider to lean into corners. With the MX Z 600 H.O. E-TEC, you can perform sharp cornering maneuvers with impressive confidence thanks to the SC-5 rear suspension, which never bottoms out even on very bumpy trails. Yet, it offers decent comfort in normal riding conditions. God bless the wonderful shock tuning. What's more, the MX Z features the famous Ripsaw track with 1.25-inch studs which, in our opinion, is the best performance track in the business.

Ski-Doo is once again jumping ahead of the competition, this time with the new E-TEC technology. Two-stroke enthusiasts will be thrilled to know that the new engine is not only cleaner and more fuel-efficient but also just as capable as the old 600 SDI unit. Thanks to E-TEC, BRP is keeping 2-stroke engines alive and well... much to the delight of sporty riders. Bravo!
