2009 KTM 525 XC Review

12-2-2011

by Pascal Bastien , moto123.com

Pros only
As you may have guessed, the 525 XC is not suitable for beginners, unless they’ve perhaps racked up a bit of extreme riding or driving experience on another type of machine.

Its stiff frame, race-ready geometry and high-end, fully adjustable, hypersensitive suspension system require a solid sport riding background. Once calibrated, the 525 XC allows for refined and precise manoeuvres and proves rather unforgiving, though it excels at drifting as a corrective measure.

You really have to learn to modulate both the throttle and brakes to keep from getting into trouble. It must be said, however, that the factory-installed Maxxis RazR tires wrapped around the gorgeous aluminum wheels don’t offer the desired grip on all types of surfaces.

Be that as it may, with just the tiniest bit of encouragement the 525 XC turns into a real stick of dynamite. The exemplary frame, quality suspension, überpotent brakes and charismatic, muscle-bound engine will allow KTM to make a name for itself in this fiercely competitive segment. KTM Canada is still selling off 2010 models, so there are some great deals to be had for all you thrill-seekers out there.

Pros
Precise, explosive engine
Competent frame
Adjustable chassis
High-end suspension

Cons
Front brakes are too powerful and hard to modulate
Designed for veteran riders
