2008 Suzuki GSX-R600 Long-Term

12-4-2009

by Pascal Bastien , moto123.com

What an adrenalin trip
The engine starts to push hard from 6,000 rpm, then much more above 8,000 rpm, before finally exploding beyond 11,000 rpm. While it may seem pointless to exceed the 13,500 power peak, you can stretch it up the 14,000 rpm red line to save a shift at the end of straightaways or between corners. The engine actually howls at that level, and I can’t get enough of it.

On the road, some will find the riding position a bit too aggressive. Sure, this bike is designed for alert riders in good physical shape, but I bet you’ll get somewhat used to it as you gobble up miles. On track, it fits me like a glove.

Looking gooooood! Get a load of that knee close to the ground. I did actually touch regularly by the end of the season - due more to my slimness and flexibility than to extreme lean angles ! But next year...

Now I understand… and I love my new toy!
The Suzuki GSX-R600 delivers the best roll-on acceleration in its class, along with decent ergos, great brakes and an efficient suspension for riding close to the limit on track. All this, and it also forgives most novice mistakes.

After a full season on the bike, I now have a much better knowledge of how and where to ride this sportbike in order to get the most thrills out of it.

See you at the track in 2010!
