2008 Honda XLV 1000 Varadero Preview

5-29-2008

by moto123.com

The Varadero is motivated by a liquid-cooled, 90-degree V-twin with 4 valves per cylinder. This torquey engine is fed by an electronic fuel injection system featuring 42-mm throttle bodies. The 6-speed transmission was specifically tuned for a mix of road and trail riding. According to Honda engineers, the V-twin delivers a linear powerband -- a must for any adventure-type motorcycle. And with a fuel economy estimated at 6 L/100 km (25-liter tank), the XLV 1000 promises surprising range.

European model shown

Highly anticipated
Honda is finally offering a worthy competitor to the V-Strom and KTM, two bikes that are dominating an overly quiet segment. Open-air enthusiasts have been eagerly waiting for it, and now, the Japanese manufacturer answers the call with a genuine XLV 1000 Varadero. The Canadian model boasts all the features that have made its European counterpart a sales success during all these years. Hopefully, it will prove just as popular over here -- to the extent that Honda will decide to bring in its small sister, the Transalp 700.
