2007 Suzuki Bandit 1250S Road Test

8-27-2007

by Pascal Bastien , moto123.com

Genuinely safe
In terms of ergonomics, the Bandit is exemplary. The riding position is perfect thanks to fully adjustable handlebars and seat. This bike offers a lot more room and comfort is surprising for such an affordable sport-oriented machine. It can easily play the role of a touring motorcycle, even when riding with a passenger. The rather extensive fairing, on the other hand, still does not offer sufficient protection against the elements.

Overall, the ergonomics are good, but wind protection is limited.

On the safety front, the Bandit 1250S is extremely well equipped. Still, for buyers who ask for more, Suzuki offers ultra-efficient ABS brakes as a $500 option. Unlike true sportsbikes where the mirrors only show the shoulders of the rider, the Bandit's are very large, well positioned and confidence-inspiring.

Easy to ride
Despite its massive displacement, the Bandit 1250S remains a very user-friendly bike. The rider has an easy time attacking even the tightest corners and maintaining control of the machine. The 1250S is fast in sharp zigzags and faster than many premium sportsbikes when the road deteriorates. That's because the suspension is ideally calibrated, offering a near perfect balance of ride and handling. In the city, I found it very much at ease and nimble despite its 229 kilos. The heavy weight is only felt during parking maneuvers.

Thanks to a new, well-executed engine and a host of proven features, the 2007 Bandit 1250S is more enticing than ever. For sporty riders who like to travel a lot, it proves to be an interesting alternative to expensive touring-only motorcycles. Performance, versatility, comfort and safety make up this bike's recipe -- for just $100 more than the previous model.
