WPSA: AMSOIL Duluth National Event Schedule Changed due to Weather

11-23-2006

The schedule of events for this weekend's season-opening WPSA PowerSports Snowmobile Tour 15th Annual AMSOIL Duluth National has been changed.

The move was made due to above-freezing temperatures in the Duluth area, which have affected snowmaking this week. The race weekend kicks off this Friday with Pro qualifying and a fireworks show.

The Winter X Games 11 Invitational event has been moved to Sunday, while both Pro Finals will be run Saturday. A revised copy of the schedule can be downloaded in PDF format at www.PowerSportsTour.com.

"Warm daytime temperatures, as well as lows in the high 30s have hampered snowmaking efforts this week," said Kent Lungstrom, Executive Vice President of Operations for PowerSports Entertainment, Inc. "Miraculously, the Sprit Mountain snowmaking crew has produced enough snow to make an excellent racing surface. However, the weather trend has resulted in us having snow totals that were slightly lower than expected. Moving the Pro events to Saturday, and closing the weekend with the X Games event, allows us to manage that snow more effectively.

"We understand this may hamper some teams' plans for the weekend," added Lungstrom. "However, we cannot control the weather. Instead, we have to react to it in a way that makes for a world-class show for the fans, the riders and our TV audience."

The first race on the 2006-2007 WPSA PowerSports Snowmobile Tour season, the AMSOIL Duluth National, kicks off Friday at Spirit Mountain in Duluth, Minn. with Pro qualifying, Amateur Finals, as well as fireworks. The event runs through Sunday, Nov. 26. Great tickets are still available! Advance tickets for the AMSOIL Duluth National can be purchased at www.visitduluth.com or by calling 218-722-4011.
