The WPSA PowerSports Snowmobile Tour will hit Verona, N.Y. this weekend for the Eastern National at Turning Stone Resort and Casino. The event, which represents Round 4 of the 2006-2007 Tour, is scheduled for this Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 10-11.
The race will mark a return of the PowerSports Snowmobile Tour to New York after a one-year hiatus. Snowmaking has been ongoing for the last month, and more than 30 million pounds of snow have been created for the event, along with natural snow that has fallen this week.
Leading the charge into Verona is the dynamic duo of Robbie Malinoski and Tucker Hibbert.
Malinoski (No. 4 BOSS Racing/Yamaha) is coming off an historic victory scored a month ago at Brainerd Int'l Raceway. The Pro Open win was the initial one for a four-stroke sled in national competition and the first for Yamaha's new snowmobile, which was unveiled this season. The defending Pro Stock and Pro Open Riders' Champion joined the BOSS squad in the off-season and is teamed with Japanese rider Yuji Nakazawa.
Hibbert (No. 68 Monster Energy Drink/Arctic Cat) is looking to extend his streak of consecutive victories this season to four here. Hibbert, who returned to Snocross competition this season after competing in AMA Supercross for the last three years, won both Pro Stock finals at Brainerd, and then topped that off two weeks ago by winning his second Gold Medal at Winter X Games 11 in Aspen/Snowmass, Colo.
Ryan Simons (No. 67 Speedwerx/Arctic Cat) also continued his success this season at Winter X Games, earning his first Silver Medal. The Alberta native currently leads the PowerSports Snowmobile Tour's Pro Open standings by five points, ahead of sophomore pro racer Ross Martin.
