Simons Wins Second Canterbury Pro Stock Final

3-3-2007

by Flagworld

Ryan Simons (No. 67 Speedwerx/Arctic Cat) came into the 2006-2007 WPSA PowerSports Snowmobile Tour season a bit unsure. After finishing a rocky 2005-2006 Tour, the young Sedgewick, Alberta native wasn't sure in which direction his career was going.

However, after recording his first career Pro victory last weekend in Eagle River, Simons continued his momentum Saturday, winning the Pro Stock final, part of the Air Force Canterbury Snocross.

Simons inherited the lead halfway through the final when Ross Martin smoked the drivebelt in his No. 837 Judnick Motorsports/Polaris. Simons then cruised easily to the victory. TJ Gulla (No. 44 Pirtek/Polaris) and Levi LaVallee (No. 108 Pirtek Polaris) finished second and third, respectively.

"Nothing has really changed this year as far as the program," said Simons. "I'm just going out there, trying my best and it's working out. You can never rule out Ross (Martin). He's one of the fastest riders out there. I got really close to him a few times, and I was hoping for him to make a mistake.

"The Pro Stock points are super close right now," added Simons. "I imagine this will make it a lot closer."

Mathew Piche (No. 518 Christian Brothers Racing/Arctic Cat) and Brett Turcotte (No. 196 Blair Morgan Racing/Ski-Doo) won the Semi-Pro Stock finals. Matthew Bristow (No. 113 Bristow's/Polaris) was the Sport Stock victor.

The Air Force Canterbury Snocross continues today with Pro Open racing, as well as a Pro autograph session at 4 p.m. Great seats are still available with tickets starting at just $20.
