Jorge Lorenzo (Yamaha) dominated this past weekend’s Portuguese Grand Prix at Estoril, closing in on championship leader Valentino Rossi, as Yamaha won the constructors' championship.
Fastest in practice and qualifying, the Spaniard lost a position to countryman Dani Pedrosa (Honda) at the start, but quickly regained the lead on the first lap and was never bothered as he ran out the race.
Team-mate and championship leader Valentino Rossi fought with a lack of rear wheel bite all weekend, leaving him was unable to maintain a competitive race pace, and a disappointed fourth at the chequered. The twelve points drop leaves The Doctor only 18 points in front of Lorenzo, with three races left this season.
Lorenzo dominated, but the star of the race was without doubt Ducati’s Casey Stoner, whose return after a three-race break saw him take a strong second place. Pedrosa took the final podium position with his Honda, 3.5 seconds behind Stoner, but a massive 13 seconds ahead of Rossi.
Next stop will be Australia, at Phillip Island, October 18th.
