Jorge Lorenzo (Yamaha) won the Indianapolis MotoGP, taking full advantage of falls by his closest championship rivals, Dani Pedrosa (Honda) and current points leader Valentino Rossi (Yamaha).
Polesitter Dani Pedrosa dropped his Honda from the lead on lap 4 of the 28-lap race. The three-time world champion managed to rejoin the race and salvage some points by finishing tenth.
Valentino Rossi took over the lead when Pedrosa fell, but lost it to a charging Lorenzo on lap 9. One lap later, Rossi also found himself on the ground. He then rode back to the pits unhurt, rejoining later and finally retiring from the race with a damaged throttle from the fall.
Lorenzo went on to win by 10 sec, in front of Alex for De Angelis (His first MotoGP podium finish) and a resurgent Nicky Hayden (Ducati), who resisted race-long pressure from Honda's Andrea Dovizioso to score his best ever result for Ducati in front of his home crowd.
The next MotoGP round will be in San Marino on September 6th.
