Michael Willard and the KTM 250 SX-F are 2007 MX2 East Canadian Champions!
The final round of the 2007 MX 2 East Championship took place this weekend in
Richmond, Ontario at the Sand Del
Lee race track. Royal Distributing Stoneridge KTM Canada's Michael Willard had a
22 point lead in the series as
the gate dropped on the first moto of the day. Behind the # 11 250 SX-F was his
team mate Royal Distributing
Stoneridge KTM Canada's Tim Tremblay.
Rounding the first corner and winning the coveted Royal Distributing Holeshot
was Michael Willard followed closely in
third by Tim Tremblay. After grabbing an early lead Willard battled through out
the first part of the moto with his
competitors giving the crowd a spectacular show and then with a few laps to go
Willard was able to pull away from the
rest of the pack taking the moto win and effectively winning the title.
Royal
Distributing Stoneridge KTM rider Tim
Tremblay suffered some bad luck when he went down on the rough track and another
rider landed on his bike causing
enough damage to where the #27 could not finish the race. Undaunted Tremblay had
the confidence in himself, the
team and his bike to regroup for the second moto and gain as many points in the
championship as he could.
All eyes were on the KTM riders as the first MX1 Moto roared off the start
gate. Royal Distributing Stoneridge KTM
Canada's Matt Barnes has been steadily improving since his injuries in the early
part of the season, and came around
the first corner ahead of fellow KTM riders Amsoil KTM Marco Dube, and Orange
Motorsports KTM Mason Phillips.
Royal Distributing KTM rider Iain Hayden also made his debut this season on
board his #23 KTM 450 SX-F.
Marco
Dube showed incredible speed after his nasty practice crash earlier in the day
and finished a strong 8th place for moto 1.
Royal Distributing Stoneridge KTM Canada's Matt Barnes finished in 11th place
just ahead of teammates Phillips and
Hayden who finished 17 and 14 respectively.
The Royal Distributing Stoneridge KTM Canada team was looking for a strong
result from both of their contenders as
the last moto of the series got underway. They were not disappointed as great
start from Royal Distributing
Stoneridge KTM Canada's Tim Tremblay meant his chances for 2nd Overall in the MX
2 East Championship was still
attainable.
An uncharacteristically bad start for Willard set the stage for an
amazing run through the pack for the Ohio
native. Blazingly fast Willard picked off and passed his fellow competitors
until he eventually passed his way into 3rd
position by motos end earning him a well deserved 1st Overall for the day.
