The event is part of the 10th and final round of the 2006-2007 WPSA PowerSports Snowmobile Tour.
Bauerly won the event after the Arctic Cat of Tom Rambow, which crossed the finish line first, was disqualified for failing post-race inspection. Mike Kieper, who timed third, was also disqualified when his Arctic Cat failed post-race tech. The technical infractions placed Joshua Zelinski (No. 79 Zelinski Brothers/Ski-Doo) second, ahead of Adam S. Johnson (No. 77 River Valley State Bank/Ski-Doo).
The eldest of the racing Bauerly brothers, Chad Bauerly stepped it up this year, after injuries sidelined his brother Ross earlier this season. The victory marked C. Bauerly's first Pro victory in national competition.
The Affiliate Championship invited the top three riders in points in eight classes in four WPSA regions: Minnesota State, Wisconsin State, Woody's Michigan State and the Rock Maple Racing. The winners in each class will be honored Sunday at the national banquet.
"I've been doing this for nine years, and I was glad to see the Affiliate Championship start up last year," said C. Bauerly. "The younger guys have gotten a little banged up, so I've been supporting them, but it feels good to step it up and get a win.
"The regional events are really strong in each state, but to elevate this to a national level gives you a chance to race against the best riders from the other regions, and get some national exposure," added Bauerly. "This is really cool."
Other Affiliate Championship winners were: Women's Stock: Steffanie Lemieux (No. 113 All Around Power Equipment/Ski-Doo) 120 Champ 6-12: Dylan Jansen (No. 272 Northway Sports/Polaris) Junior 10-13: Travis Muller (No. 304 Muller Sellner Equipment/Ski-Doo) Plus 25: Scott Edwards (No. 632 Mike's Drywall/Ski-Doo) Semi-Pro Open: Justin Steck (No. 478 Trygstad Motor Sports/Ski-Doo) Sport Stock: Logan Christian (No. 443 Christian Brothers Racing/Arctic Cat) Sport Open: Logan Christian (No. 443 Christian Brothers Racing/Arctic Cat)
Derek Ellis (No. 106 Woody's/Polaris) earned a victory in the Sport Open national final after Jake Erickson was disqualified when his Ski-Doo failed post-race tech.
Kyle Pallin (No. 324 Speedwerx/Arctic Cat) won the Sport Open final. Daniel Dolecki, who timed third in the Sport Stock national final, was disqualified after his Ski-Doo failed post-race inspection.
The Nielsen Enterprises Grand Finale continues tomorrow with Pro Open and Pro Stock qualifying, as well as a full slate of national racing. In addition, a Pro autograph session is scheduled for 4 p.m. Racing gets underway at 9 a.m. Tickets for tomorrow's race start at just $20.
