AMA Supercross: Kevin Windham wins - Ryan Dungey 2010 Champion

4-26-2010

by moto123.com

Kevin Windham (Honda) has finally earned his first AMA Supercross victory of the 2010 season, and Ryan Dungey (Suzuki) has won his first AMA Supercross title with a safe fourth-place result on a difficult track in Seattle this past Saturday.

The dry and sandy dirt surface quickly produced ruts so deep that foot pegs were digging in around the track, making it difficult and unsafe for all the racers. Dungey played it safe (And smart) all night, only managing a fourth place after riding well within himself.

Kevin Windham dominated the race from the holeshot, pulling away to a 22 seconds victory, his first since 2008 on this very same track. Tommy Hahn (Honda) came in second, ahead of Justin Brayton (Yamaha), on his first podium finish in Supercross.

Former champion Chad Reed (Kawasaki) fought his way to 8th in what turned out to be a race of survival, with most front runners avoiding unnecessary risks on the dangerous surface.

These results mean that Ryan Dungey has clinched the 2010 AMA Supercross Championship with two rounds to go and his closest pursuer, Ryan Villopoto out for the season with a broken ankle.

The next round of the AMA Supercross series will be presented in Salt Lake City on May 1st.
