AMA American Superbike - Honda withdraws completely from the class

9-21-2009

by Marc Cantin , moto123.com

American Honda announced that they will not participate in next season’s AMA American Superbike championship. Honda cited, “the current AMA racing environment in the American Superbike class does not align with our company goals,” as the reason for its withdrawal. This after being clearly dominated by Suzuki in the Superbike class over the last decade.

In 2009, Honda fielded a factory-supported effort racing under the name of Corona Extra Racing. It’s unknown however if Honda will continue to participate in the Daytona SportBike class as they did this year with Erion Honda.

The big question now is what will the remaining manufacturers in the American Superbike class do, race or follow Honda into inaction.
