2009 Yamaha Waverunner Preview

3-22-2009

by Pascal Bastien , moto123.com

FX models
This year, models from the FX series get a new 1,812-cc, naturally-aspirated engine delivering higher fuel economy and fewer emissions than the supercharged variant. This torquey powerplant is much easier to exploit than the 1.8-liter SHO of FZ models and promises some nice thrills along with a quieter ride. The FX and FX Cruiser High-Output benefit from a single-piece cylinder and crankcase assembly for superior engine rigidity that's also lighter than two-piece designs.

Safety at the forefront
All 2009 Waverunners are equipped with Off-Throttle Steering (OTS), a function which activates when the operator releases the throttle lever and attempts to steer the watercraft. It allows sharp steering control at very low speeds. FX and FX Cruiser models also feature Low RPM Mode (with a button on the remote transmitter) to limit engine power and top speed for beginners. Furthermore, if the watercraft becomes overturned, an electronic switch will stop the engine and oil pumps immediately to protect the rider from injuries and the engine from unwanted water ingestion.

Yamaha's Waverunner family offers undeniable quality in a selection of eight different models. Intelligent safety devices as well as quiet, fuel-efficient and highly-competent powertrains are part of the mix. For watersport enthusiasts, it hardly gets any better than that.
