Pope Francis sells Harley-Davidson signed by his predecessor

11-28-2014

by Josée Paquet

Pope Francis has decided to sell his Harley-Davidson Softail Classic which bears the signature of his predecessor, Pope Benedict XVI, on the fuel tank.

As you may know, in a special countdown to Harley-Davidson’s 110th anniversary celebrations, two commemorative motorcycle tanks were presented to Pope Benedict XVI, but when he abdicated in January 2013, the Softail Classic was presented to the newly inaugurated Pope, his holiness Pope Francis.

The motorcycle is to be offered as part of Bonhams Grand Palais auction in Paris on February 5th, 2015, with an estimate of €15,000-25,000 ($21,000-$35,000). If there's no bidder (which seems highly unlikely since another papal Harley-Davidson fetched $365,000 earlier this year), the bike will then be sold at the as-new price.
