AMA Supercross - Ryan Dungey wins Las Vegas finale and 2010 Championship

5-10-2010

by Marc Cantin , moto123.com

Newly crowned 2010 AMA Supercross champion Ryan Dungey (Suzuki) won his sixth race of the current season at the Las Vegas final this past Saturday. Former Champion Chad Reed (Kawasaki) finished second, ahead of Honda veteran Kevin Windham, his fifth consecutive podium appearance.

Dungey took the lead right at the start of the main event, closely followed by Kyle Chisholm (Yamaha) through turn one, while returnee Chad Reed pushed his way into second place in turn two. Dungey then led all 20 laps en route to a dominating victory.

Dungey and recently-injured Ryan Villopoto emerged ahead of the pack after major injuries sidelined James Stewart and Chad Reed early in the season. Running consecutive weekends from early January to mid-May places great strain of the riders, and increases the risk of serious injuries, robbing from the spectacle. Here is to a full complement of top riders throughout 2011.
