Josh Hayes (Yamaha) had a dominant week-end in California, as he swept the AMA Superbike doubleheader that was run on Infineon’s 2.32 hilly miles.

In the Saturday race, Hayes started from pole and managed his pace and close competitors to win his first 2010 Superbike race. Ben Bostrom (Yamaha) even got past Hayes but could not make the pass stick, ending up second at the flag.

Pegram took a well deserved third after a good fight with Zemke, Blake Young and Tommy Hayden, all on Suzukis.

In the second race, Hayes missed his start and dropped to fourth before clawing his way back to the lead and running out the race, 3.6 seconds ahead of Ben Bostrom, and Larry Pegram a further three seconds back.

These results tightened up the points standing considerably, with only 16 points between leader Zemke and fourth place man Blake Young. Nice to see some real competition again, with a factory-assisted Suzuki in front, a factory Suz second, a factory Yamaha third, and another factory Suzuki in fourth. Zemke needs another win or two to remain in front of the pack of factory wolves, who are hard at work to push him back down a notch or two.

Next up the series will be the classic four mile road track at Elkhart Lake, WI, on June 4-6.
