2015 Yamaha VXR Preview

4-28-2015

by Guillaume Rivard , moto123.com

The Yamaha VXR was largely redesigned for 2015 and boasts an all-new race performance platform with edgier graphics and looks. Colour choices were revised, as well, including Black/Laser Yellow and Torch Red.

Of course, the big news this year is a thing called “RiDE” (Reverse with Intuitive Deceleration Electronics) -- the world's first dual handlebar throttle control system. Pull the right lever to go forward, and the left lever for reverse. Pull them both, or in any combination, and the system reacts with precise control. Benefits include better handling, smooth deceleration, and more control while turning.

Meanwhile, the all-new electronic trim system allows the rider to adjust the handling characteristics of the 2015 Yamaha VXR on the fly from a looser, more playful feel to a more planted, high-performance experience.

The return of a great big engine
The VXR is once again motivated by a normally aspirated, 1,812cc, 4-stroke High Output engine that offers up a mix of high performance, good fuel economy, and the reliability Yamaha is known for. Moreover, the Yamaha Engine Management System (YEMS) governs Off-Throttle Steering (OTS), which activates when the operator releases the throttle lever and attempts to steer, effectively making cornering manoeuvres easier when the watercraft is decelerating.

The engine sends power to a 155mm hyper-flow jet pump propulsion system with a three-blade stainless steel impeller that's designed to maximize water flow. The VXR pump configuration provides excellent hook-up and quick acceleration.

Other VXR highlights
Longer, wider, and taller, the new VXR also has greater storage capacity (up from 57L to 93L). Despite the new platform, you can still count on the ultra-lightweight NanoXcel hull, which is responsive and exciting at all speeds. A progressive, stepper draft, V-shaped design with an integrated bow spray-guard makes for excellent manoeuvrability, handling, and comfort. Meanwhile, the textured and bolstered seat ensures grip and comfort when charging into turns. It can sit up to three people.

There are other nice features on the 2015 Yamaha VXR to tell you about, such as the remote controlled transmitter that can activate or deactivate the digital security system and Low-RPM mode from up to 30 feet away. Speaking of which, the Low-RPM mode can reduce fuel consumption by up to 26%, Yamaha claims. Let's not forget the extra-large boarding platform with a retractable step in the back.

Due to the various aforementioned changes, the 2015 Yamaha VXR retails for $14,399 -- about $600 more than the outgoing model.
